A new volume has just been published by Four Courts Press: The Materiality of Devotion in Late Medieval Northern Europe: Images, Objects and Practices. Edited by Prof. Salvador Ryan of SPCM (in collaboration with Prof. Henning Laugerud of the University of Bergen and Dr Laura Katrine Skinnebach, Aarhus University), and consisting of eight essays, this richly illustrated volume focuses on the materiality of medieval religion and the manner in which Christians were encouraged to engage the senses in their devotional practices: gazing, hearing, touching, tasting, and committing to memory.
