CAO Available Places 2019

St Patrick’s College, Maynooth has two courses available on CAO Available Places (also known as Vacant Places):

Baccalaureate Theology & Arts (MU001)

Baccalaureate Theology (MU002)

How does the CAO Available Places process work?

Any course which hasn’t been filled up via the first round CAO offers can then be filled through the Available Places process. Anyone can apply for an available place, as long as you meet the 'minimum requirements' for the course you want to study. In the case of St Patrick’s College, Maynooth, this means you must have scored a minimum of 290 points and meet the matriculation requirement (2 x H5 and 4 x O6/H7, English Irish, a third language, plus 3 other recognised subjects).

How to apply through Available Places

  • 1.If you’ve already applied through the CAO
  • 2.If you have not already applied through the CAO

If you've already applied through the CAO, then all you need to do is log into your account on CAO.ie. Then go to the 'Available Places’ tab (please click here). Then enter the course codes for the course you would like to study. It must be higher in your list of preferences than any offer you have received already. It then must be below those courses you wish to retain. Click submit on your new application. Within two weeks, you will have an official offer to study the course you have chosen.

If you have not already applied through the CAO - it's the exact same process except you'll have to register and pay a fee of €45 to begin the process.

Available Places applications open at 12:00 noon on 20th August. Applications received by 11:00 on 23rd August may be considered for offers in Round Two on 28th August at 10:00. From 2nd September to 20th September the Available Places facility operates on a weekly schedule of applications, offers and acceptances. Applications that arrive in CAO before 11:00 on a Monday will be processed and considered for offers on Friday. Offers will be available to view on the CAO website from 06:00 on the Friday.
