This week marks the 150th anniversary of the death of Cardinal Nicholas Wiseman (1802-1865), Archbishop of Westminster following the re-establishment of the Catholic Hierarchy in the mid-nineteenth century.  Cardinal Wiseman visited Maynooth College in September 1858 where he was greeted by over 500 professors and students. The Cardinal said High Mass and later met with the students in the new library (now the Russell Library). Several original letters from Cardinal Wiseman to College President Charles William Russell (1857-1880) are housed in the College Archives.
