Module Aims

To develop an integrated understanding of the Christian themes of Creation and the Fall, grace and eschatology including:

• How God is at work in the universe.
• Exploring the God-creation relationship.
• Tracing the understanding of creation and grace through Scripture, Tradition and in contemporary theologians.
• Examining the contemporary relevance of the concepts of Original Sin and the final recapitulation of Creation in Christ at the end of time.

Indicative Syllabus:

• Biblical understanding of creation.
• Theology of Creation in Dialogue with Science.
• Theology of the Fall and Original Sin.
• Understanding Grace as Relationship in Augustine and Aquinas.
• Reformation Controversies and the Council of Trent.
• Eschatology and the Last Things.
• Vatican II and the Renewal of Theology.
• Contemporary challenges to Theological Anthropology.

Learning Outcomes

• — Be able to show how a theology of Christian Anthropology leads to an integrated vision of the Christian life.
• — Understand how the relation between religion and science can be complementary rather than oppositional
• — Be prepared to give a reason for the hope that is in the traditional Christian concept of the human person and the innate dignity of every human person.
