Module Aims
To develop an integrated understanding of the Christian themes of Creation and the Fall, grace and eschatology including:
- How God is at work in the universe.
- Exploring the God-creation relationship.
- Tracing the understanding of creation and grace through Scripture, Tradition and in contemporary theologians.
- Examining the contemporary relevance of the concepts of Original Sin and the final recapitulation of Creation in Christ at the end of time.
Indicative Syllabus:
- Biblical understanding of creation.
- Theology of Creation in Dialogue with Science.
- Theology of the Fall and Original Sin.
- Understanding Grace as Relationship in Augustine and Aquinas.
- Reformation Controversies and the Council of Trent.
- Eschatology and the Last Things.
- Vatican II and the Renewal of Theology.
- Contemporary challenges to Theological Anthropology.
Learning Outcomes
- — Be able to show how a theology of Christian Anthropology leads to an integrated vision of the Christian life.
- — Understand how the relation between religion and science can be complementary rather than oppositional
- — Be prepared to give a reason for the hope that is in the traditional Christian concept of the human person and the innate dignity of every human person.
