About 40 postgraduates and faculty of St Patrick’s College gathered for a research afternoon on Wednesday 5thDecember. The audience heard five research papers given by candidates for PhD and STL degrees. The topics were varied: the future of the sacrament of penance in Africa, the characterisation of one of the minor kings in Josephus’ retelling of biblical history, the 19thcentury theological background to the papal pronouncement on Our Lady’s Immaculate Conception, the theme of judgment in Luke’s Gospel, and Martha and Mary as a prism for Luke’s anthropology. The research papers were followed by sung Evening Prayer for Advent in St Mary’s Oratory and then a festive supper in Pugin Hall.
