The Irish Theological Quarterly Annual Lecture was delivered by Professor Elisheva Baumgarten, Hebrew University, Jerusalem, on Friday 1 July 2016 in the Iontas Lecture Theatre, South Campus on the topic of ‘”Like Adam and Eve, Like Abraham and Sarah”: Biblical Models and Jewish Daily Life in Medieval Christian Europe’.

This lecture, which was sponsored by SPCM’s international peer-reviewed theology journal, Irish Theological Quarterly, was also one of the keynote lectures at the Irish Conference of Medievalists 2016, which was hosted by Maynooth University in association with St Patrick’s College, Maynooth.

The lecture is entitled “Is a Catholic University a ‘Good Idea’?: reflections on Higher Education from a Newmanian Perspective”. The Response was delivered by Mr Tom Boland, CEO, Higher Education Authority, Ireland.

This annual lecture series, dedicated to exploring the thought of John Henry Newman in an inter-disciplinary context, is jointly organized by the Faculty of Theology and the Department of Education, National University of Ireland and An Foras Feasa (Institute for Research in Irish Historical and Cultural Traditions), National University of Ireland, Maynooth. The speakers and theme are chosen on a rota basis over a three-year cycle and the format lends itself to a real conversation across the disciplines. The lecture is customarily followed by a Response from a distinguished invited speaker.
