Some highlights of 2013:

• Ordination to Diaconate
  on Trinity Sunday
  26th May 2013
  On Sunday 26th May 2013, Saint Patrick’s College, Maynooth will celebrate the ordination of Deacons in a ceremony rich in symbolism. Diaconate is the last phase in the formation of a seminarian before his ordination to the Priesthood.

• Seminarist Course in Philosophy and Arts celebrates 44 years.

  An evening of celebration and commemoration was held in the Crolly Room on Thursday, 2nd May, to mark forty-four years of the Seminarist Course in Philosophy and Arts.
  
  
  
  
  
  
• Schola Gregoriana 
  Lunchtime concert on Thursday, 2 May , in the College Chapel at 1.10 p.m. 
  You are invited to the Schola Concert, which features chants to celebrate St Michael the Archangel, St Nicholas, and the apostles St Philip and St James (whose feast day is on 3 May). 
  The guest organist is Raymond O'Donnell, director of music at Galway Cathedral.

• Treasures of Irish Christianity Volume I reprinted, and now Volume II is coming....
  April 2013:
  Last year's publication, Treasures of Irish Christianity: People and Places, Images and Texts, edited by Professor Salvador Ryan and Professor Brendan Leahy has recently gone to a re-print. A second volume entitled Treasures of Irish Christianity: A People of the Word, will be published by Veritas in the early summer.

• Haydn's Creation in the College Chapel
  10 March 2013
  The Creation may be Joseph Haydn's finest work, and was written in Vienna during the first years of the existence of Saint Patrick’s College between 1796 and 1798.
  
  
  
  
• Papal Nuncio addresses John Paul II Society
  4 March 2013
  Archbishop Charles Brown, Papal Nuncio to Ireland, will visit Saint Patrick's College to address members and guests of the Blessed John Paul II Theological Society to discuss "Some Historical Reflections on the Spousal Dimension of Sacerdotium"

• Marie Kelly RIP.  1st March 2013
  The death has occurred of Marie Kelly of Main Street Maynooth.  Marie was in her 80th year, and for 27 years up to 1998 was the Residence Officer in the College, finding and approving accommodation for thousands of students before the development of on-campus accommodation.  She was known to one and all as Ma Kelly.
  She died peacefully, in the loving care of the staff of Maynooth Community Care Unit.  May she rest in peace. 
  The arrangements are as follows:
  Reposing at Maynooth Community Care Unit.   Removal on Sunday 3rd March at 4pm Arriving at Saint Mary's Church, Maynooth, at 4.30pm.   Funeral Mass on Monday 4th March at 11.30am, followed by burial in Laraghbryan Cemetery.

• Pugin portrait donated to Maynooth College
  22nd February 2012
  A portrait of A W N Pugin which has been on loan to the College for a number of years, has been donated to the College, and will continue to hang in Maynooth College in the years to come.

• Rugby in Maynooth College for over 100 years

  As the Ireland team claimed its first win in the opening match of the Six Nations Championship today, it is interesting to note that there was a College team in Maynooth one hundred years ago.

• Monsignor Eamon Martin appointed as Coadjutor Archbishop of Armagh
  18th January 2013
  Monsignor Hugh Connolly has sent his warmest congratulations to Monsignor Eamon Martin on his appointment as Coadjutor Archbishop of Armagh. He notes that Monsignor Martin has all the experience and skill for a very demanding job.  He went on to say "it is wonderful to have a Maynooth man and classmate in this prestigious role. Monsignor Martin can count on the support and practical assistance of all of his former colleagues here in Maynooth. I wish him every blessing and happiness for today and for his future Episcopal ministry."
  
  
  
• Witch Hazel - first bloom of 2013
  The most welcoming plant in Saint Joseph's Square in 2013 is the Witch Hazel which burst into bloom in early January, despite the cold winds and snow.
  
  
  
  
  
  
• Monsignor Patrick Corish
  Requiescat in pace
  10 January 2013
  Monsignor Patrick Corish died this morning in the Mill Lane Manor Nursing Home, Naas, Co Kildare.
  
  Monsignor Corish was the former President, Professor of Ecclesiastical History & Professor of Modern History in the Recognised College of the National University of Ireland at Maynooth.

• Professor Brendan Leahy nominated as Bishop elect of the Diocese of Limerick
  10 January 2013
  The President, Monsignor Hugh Connolly has congratulated Professor Brendan Leahy on behalf of the entire St Patrick's College, Maynooth Community on his nomination as Bishop elect of the Diocese of Limerick. Monsignor Connolly also paid tribute to the enormous contribution that Professor Leahy has made to the life of the Pontifical University and the Seminary during his time with us. He wishes Professor Leahy every joy, blessing and grace in his future years of episcopal ministry.
