Research Interests
  • The integration of ordained ministers and lay pastoral workers into existing ecclesial structures: pastoral, ecclesiological, and professional issues
  • Supervision and on-going formation in ministry
  • The nature of praise and its relationship to pastoral liturgical music practices

Giovanna completed undergraduate studies at Mater Dei Institute of Education, Dublin (Religious Studies, Education, English). She then taught at Holy Family Secondary School, Newbridge, Co. Kildare, for seven years, before taking on the fulltime role of Parish Pastoral & Liturgical Coordinator in Ashbourne/Donaghmore Parish, Diocese of Meath, for a further six years. In 2005 she began postgraduate studies in Theology at the Pontifical University, St Patrick’s College, Maynooth, during which time she served a semester as Acting Director of Sacred Music & College Chapel Choir. She joined the Pastoral Theology department in 2007 as Pastoral Placement Education Coordinator and was appointed to the Faculty of Theology as Lecturer & Ass. Director of Pastoral Theology in 2011. In addition to her work in pastoral theology and formation for ministry, Giovanna is also an active liturgical musician.
