Module Aims

The primary aim of this course is to study the history, theology and liturgical celebration of the Eucharist in the life of the Church. A particular focus of the course is to explore the use of sacrificial language in Eucharistic theology.

Moving from the New Testament accounts to emerging Eucharistic celebrations in various communities, students will be introduced to key terms and issues in contemporary debates on the history and development of the Eucharistic event. While there will be an emphasis on literary sources, attention will also be paid to art forms and material evidence.
